When Work Hurts
Sometimes work hurts.
We might be discouraged, disillusioned, or devastated by our work. We might experience trauma or harassment on the job or we may have experienced work loss by getting fired. If you've been beat up, burnt out, or broken-hearted by work, you're not alone.
The Bible tells us that work will be difficult--filled with thorns and thistles--but no one prepares us for the pain we experience on the job. Meryl Herr explores the emotional, relational, and vocational pain that work causes and helps us rebound and build resilience so that we can fully participate with God in his mission. She walks through the biblical story of the Israelites' journey of exile, return, and rebuilding as a framework for spiritual and practical resources for navigating work loss. God is at work in the midst of our work to bring healing and hope.

Share Your Work Hurt Story
Have you experienced work hurt? In my book, I suggest that one of the first steps toward healing is sharing your story. I want to provide a space where you can freely and safely share your story to help in your healing. I may use your story as an example of work hurt during writing or speaking engagements because stories connect us and help us feel seen and less alone.
If you would like to share your story with me, email me at whenworkhurts@gmail.com.
By submitting your story, you agree to let me share it in publications and presentations. I'll be sure to change your name and any identifying details to keep your story anonymous. Who knows? Your story may be precisely what someone else needs to hear.
If you'd like to read an example first, check out Gary's story.
